State of Fashion, ArtEZ University of the Arts and NewTexEco would like to invite you to the Assembly Available to Promise: Hidden Systems and Unseen Labour on Friday 29 May from 09:30 – 18:00 h, in the City Hall in Arnhem. Bringing together artists, designers, students, researchers, companies, industry representatives and policy makers, the Assembly will expose a wide variety of perspectives on hidden systems and unseen labour in the fashion industry.

(Un)seen Labour is a research project of the Fashion Professorship at ArtEZ University of the Arts, in collaboration with State of Fashion and partners Avans University of Applied Sciences and Crafts Council Nederland. Together, they explore how art and design can show what lies behind the fashion and textile industry. Through a circular and social approach, new ways of working emerge that contribute to more sustainable and equitable design practices.

On Thursday March 20, 2025 Daniëlle Bruggeman marked her position as Professor by special appointment Fashion & Sustainability at Radboud University with the inaugural lecture “Stitches of Care: Practising Solidarity through Fashion”.

This conference invites an exploration of matters' artistic potential in fashion design, as they shape the body and unlock new modes of creative expression. Through experimentation and research, we hope to reveal materials' previously undiscovered capacities and agencies in fashion design, unlocking novel ways of thinking, being, wearing and living.
