The Fashion Professorship aims to rethink the cracks in the fashion system and the role that fashion plays – and could potentially play – in relation to urgent social, cultural, environmental and political developments in contemporary society. We envision an alternative and more engaged future of fashion in which we do more justice to fashion’s human dimension. Through research, design and critical thinking, we analyse and develop alternative approaches, systems, vocabularies and strategies. In doing so, we aim to activate the power of fashion to reimagine future bodies, future materials and future makers to contribute to resilient futures and inclusive societies.
Wageningen University & Research & ArtEZ University of the Arts: Open Online Course on Circular Fashion
By Daniëlle Bruggeman
We are excited to announce that we are developing a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Building a Common Language for Circular Fashion. In collaboration with our strategic partner Wageningen University & Research and their Circular Fashion Lab, we are bringing together art, design and science to move beyond an ego-centric approach of fashion and to start from an ecosystems perspective.
The MOOC starts from an affirmative approach to make cross-sectoral connections, aimed at designers, industry professionals, and engineers. It focuses on, for example, design as an act of transformation, on the slippery terms sustainability and circularity, on individual agency in relation to organic collectives, on developing counter narratives, on scientific knowledge on biomaterials, and on business as crafting value. As soon as the MOOC is launched in January 2020, we would love to invite you to join the co-creation of this common language for circular fashion.
